  Parental control option in the operating system

• Setup and customization of parental control for Windows operating system

  In Windows 10, you can set up parental controls in Microsoft's so-called "Family Safety".
  This lets you control who can use the computer, view reports on children's online activity, and set time limits for computer use.
  How to enable parental controls in Windows 10.

  First, you need to create a new user account for the child as follows:

  1. Press Windows + i key combination to open Settings.

  2. Navigate to Family and other users accounts.

  3. Click Add Family Member and select Add Child.

  4. Enter your e-mail adress. If the child does not yet have their own email address,
     below that, click "The person I want to add doesn't have an email address" and set one up.
     Log into the email account and confirm the link from the email you received.

  5. After that, the child can log into Windows 10 using the email address and password.

  Next, you can set how long the child can use the computer or which websites
  be blocked. You can also keep an eye on the child's activities.

   

  1. To adjust parental controls in Windows 10, open the "Family and other users" menu as described above.

  2. Click on the new menu item "Manage family settings online" that appears.

  3. Now you will be redirected to the microsoft.com/family* webpage where you will find the following parental control options:

  • Recent Activities: Receive reports on the child's recent activities on the computer.
  • Web Browsing: Set which websites to allow and which to block.
  • Apps and games: Set which apps and games are allowed. Select whether the child is allowed to download games under a certain age rating.
  • Computer Time: Set a time limit for how long the child can use the computer.

  To enable an option, click Turn Blocking On and toggle the switch to On. You can still specify the settings in submenus.

  Children's search engine: Use children's search engines (e.g. fragfinn.de, see above additional programs and initiatives under point 2.),
  which only display child-friendly sites.

  Secure Google: Major search engines can lead to problematic pages. Do not let your child search there alone and activate safe search.
